It was 1986 in Millville, NJ when Dan started painting apartment interiors for his mother. The thought of being one of the first painting contractors in the nation to do large scale commercial rebranding painting projects was far from his mind. From 1986 to 1998, Dan, or otherwise known as “DJ,” built DJ’s Painting from a small 2-man painting company into a solid 30 person team with a fleet of trucks, trailers, and a great deal of equipment. DJ’s Painting had started with a few painters doing repaints of vacant apartments and residential painting projects in Millville, Vineland, and the Cumberland County area. After a few years it became apparent that the commercial painting market would be more profitable and a better place to scale up to larger projects. From 1993 to 1998, DJ’s Painting worked all of South Jersey adding more services to their skill sets to meet the demand of their growing client base. The services expanded to include pressure washing, drywall repair, light carpentry, stucco repair, tuck pointing, graffiti removal, and even that now old, unpopular popcorn texture ceilings…
As the new services were added, more commercial painters were needed! So, Dan hired some of the best painters from the South Jersey area as well as bringing in guys from out of state to help get the projects done. The commercial painting projects that DJ’s Painting are most known for are the McDonald’s and Gap painting projects. While we did paint every McDonald’s restaurant in South Jersey and over 4000 McDonalds locations scattered over 21 states and about 3000 Gap brand stores in all 50 states, there were many other notable commercial painting projects that were completed. To name a few, DJ’s Painting painted 7 Rides in Universal Studios FL, 1500 Burger King restaurants, 50+ Office Depot stores, 50+ William Sonoma & Pottery Barn stores, 150 Chick-fil-A, 30+ Applebee’s, 300+ Boston Market restaurants which included the refinishing of about 10,000 tables, 350+ Chipotles restaurants, 300+ Apple computer stores, 20+ Staples Stores, 50+ Lowes stores, 5 Targets, and many larger familiar names… In fact, DJ’s Painting has done a lot of parking lot striping as well, including about 350 Rite Aid stores, 800 McDonald’s and 500 Burger King restaurants. Before all of those big name projects, they painted about 35,000 exterior condominium units, 7000 homes, 22,000 apartments, airport hangars, storage facilities, and store fronts from the Jersey Shore to Philly, covering every area in South Jersey.
Dan has painted, or managed his team of commercial painters, on so many large national projects that it’s hard to keep track of them all, but it all started and brought him back here right to good old South Jersey. For the next decade Dan will be focused on doing painting projects in South Jersey with many of the same commercial painters that have worked with him for 20 years all over the nation.
