NapTime

NAP TIME… it’s not just for two year olds anymore.

We are talking about paint roller nap today, so try and stay awake. Not all roller covers are created equal. The right one for the job will save you time and money as well as give a quality finish to the surface being coated.

When selecting a roller cover the first thing to consider is the surface characteristics. There is a range of nap lengths to choose from, starting at 3/16 of an inch on the short side for covering smoother surfaces such as metal and smooth finish woods and wall boards.

And For the hippies and heavy sleepers a one and a half inch nap will work well on those heavy textured jobs such as bricks, cement, stucco and rough finished wood.

Another thing to consider in regard to nap length is the amount of time it will take to coat an area. A longer nap carries more paint and if your experience level is up to it, should cut down on the job time leaving more time for…napping. Knit rollers accomplish this well as they release more paint per stroke than woven covers of the same length.

Well, all this nap length talk has gotten me worn out. So until next time, keep your rollers wet and your brushes moving.
